STAR APARTMENTS OPENS IN DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES
Star Apartments, our third project with non-profit developer Skid Row Housing Trust, celebrated its official opening on October 8th. The six-story, 100-unit building transformed an existing one-story commercial building in downtown Los Angeles into a mixed-used complex for formerly homeless individuals. Located at the intersection of 6th Street and Maple Avenue, the building is organized around three principal spatial zones stacked one upon the other. The ground level commercial zone includes the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services’ Housing for Health division headquarters and medical clinic. On the second level are the community kitchen, lounge, art room, garden, and walking track for community programs and recreation. Four levels of prefabricated housing units rise above these lower levels. Star Apartments is the first mixed-use, multi-unit residential project for formerly homeless individuals in Los Angeles to employ prefabricated construction methods. The project is certified LEED Platinum.
