Curated by Laura Hoptman, the 2004-2005 Carnegie International at the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburg broadly investigated the ‘ultimates’ of what it is to be a human by using a panoply of strategies from empirical observation and scientific deduction to ideological framing to faith and metaphysical speculation, and even mythmaking. Featuring the works of 38 artists, the exhibition design provided an armature for multiple media installations within the classical architecture of the historic Carnegie Museum of Art.
